Analytical Weighing Balance Design

One of the main challenges of the Analytical Weighing Balance Design project is its structural design. The load cell is super sensitive and hence it has to be completely isolated from external influences. This apart, the device had to be modular such that the device can be used with or without the wind shield. Wind shields are used for extremely high accuracy requirements. Further, the weighing balance design had to to be aesthetic to stand out within its competitors in the market and also help customers build confidence in the product.

The project started with QMI [quick market intelligence] to help the define team set goals and define the product design specification. Engineering constrains were also researched to define our solution boundaries.

This was followed by intense concept sketching exercise to get to potential form.

Weighing-machine-designInternal product architecture was the focus for the team and concepts were refined to accommodate the following internal product architecture.Weighing-machine-designConcept Refinement [below]analytical-weighing-scale-designThe team [with customer] selected the concept direction and made the first level CAD visualisation to move forwarded towards engineering of the design.Weighing-machine-designIts was now time to refine the design further to optimise the footprint and and manufacturing details.

The design was frozen and moved out of the studio for validation with the help of prototypes. The focus now shifted to key sheets or labels. Once more the team diverged to develop multiple options for the key sheets.

The preferred designs of the key sheets was shortlisted [design variation 3] and the team went ahead for further refinement of the labels.

And the final design was frozen and sent to the supplier for prototyping. Further the IP was handed over to the customer engineering department for further tooling and manufacturing phase.
